PFLAG Speaker's Bureau

PFLAG Whatcom & PFLAG Skagit are partnering to create an LGBTQ+ Speaker’s Bureau!

There are many gender identities and sexual orientations we need to continue to support and celebrate. We plan to build an understanding of the LGBTQ+ community with the goal of more inclusive mental health facilities, workspaces, schools, medical facilities, and more. We are excited to come to your organization. No group is too small to continue learning!

Bringing PFLAG to your organization means friendly and patient people who are ready to work with your group. We specialize in meeting our community members at their level of understanding about the LGBTQ+ community and building from there. We bring all our own equipment and handouts that include local resources. We can also help coordinate an affordable space to host your training.

We offering a variety
of topics. Let us know your specific needs, and we can accommodate.

Questioning
This presentation is a great introduction. We start with the basics by covering the difference between sexuality and gender. This will also include common LGBTQ+ definitions, understanding pronouns, and some basic guidelines on how to respect members of the LGBTQ+ Community.

Gender Brilliant 201
Participants must have completed Gender 101 or a similar training. We will cover the developmental stages of gender from fetus to adult. This in-depth training will reflect on gender as a spectrum and include an activity that encourages participants to explore their own gender identity.

Safety And Resiliency
Does your organization work with populations that identify as LGBTQ+? Do you want to stay up to date on some of the best practices? This training is designed for the social worker, teacher and other providers who are working directly with youth or adults and their families. This inclusive training covers a variety of topics including terms & definitions, best practices, healthy behaviors, small group scenarios, resources and more.

Panel Discussion
    This training
is one of the most powerful opportunities we offer. A panel of 3-6 people will share their experiences as LGBTQ+ people and allies. This includes a Q & A period. Time varies based on how many speakers are requested.

Minimum 2 hours.

Building Strong School Gay & Straight Alliances
Identifying safe people for students to relate with is a vital part of LGBTQ+ youths' health and well-being. This 3 part workshop will help you identify a leader in your organization who is willing to learn and be a "safe person", build skills to understand what makes a strong GSA/QSA, and includes PFLAG support for two of your GSA/QSA meetings. Ongoing support is available as needed.

Safe Place
This training is geared towards the needs of your organization. We will help identify some current barriers to being LGBTQ+ inclusive and brainstorm feasible ways to move toward inclusion. We will also provide resources and follow up support. Training time varies.
